The university has adopted Sennheiser’s TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) microphone system to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment for in-person and remote learning.

Sydney, Australia, 9 April, 2025 Federation University is redefining hybrid learning for students across regional Victoria with the adoption of Sennheiser’s TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) microphone system. Installed across 45 of its Connected Classrooms, this cutting-edge technology ensures crystal-clear audio, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment for students attending both in-person and remotely.

Before implementing Sennheiser’s technology, Federation University faced the significant challenge of delivering a seamless, high-quality hybrid learning experience across its regional and remote campuses.

To meet this challenge, the university needed a reliable, easy-to-use, and scalable solution that could integrate effortlessly into its classrooms while minimising the need for user intervention. In response, Federation University has taken a very specific and deliberate approach to refitting its classrooms for hybrid learning. Focusing on an innovative approach prioritising simplicity, reliability, and superior audio quality to also compliment remote hybrid learning

Sennheiser TCC 2: The Foundation of the Connected Classroom

At the heart of Federation University’s new Connected Classrooms is the Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) microphone. Designed for superior voice clarity and effortless automation, the TCC 2 microphones provide intelligent audio pickup, voice tracking, and seamless integration with Microsoft Teams and other AV systems.

Each Connected Classroom features two TCC 2 microphones per room, one for the presenter and one for the audience, ensuring clear voice lift and remote audio transmission. The TCC 2 is certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms, enabling effortless video conferencing with studio-quality sound. With this, Crestron video transmission and Q-SYS DSP systems provide robust performance and compatibility, and each room’s automated setup allows lights, screens, and audio to automatically adjust upon entry, reducing setup time for academics.

For Amit Suyan, Federation University’s AV Team Leader, the vision of connected classrooms wasn’t just about catching up with the times, it was about creating a sustainable, scalable AV infrastructure for a seamless hybrid learning experience.

Amit Suyan, AV Team Leader at Federation University, shares: “We were looking for a system that delivers a superior learning experience for both in-class and remote participants. The solution had to be easy to use, reliable, and offer excellent audio quality. It was essential to implement a system that required minimal interaction from academics while maintaining a professional-grade performance. Academics need to walk into the room and begin teaching with minimal setup. The system needed to function seamlessly, much like plugging in a laptop at home.

“We needed a solution that could deliver clear and reliable audio for both in-room and remote participants without requiring constant user intervention. Simplicity and stability were critical. The TCC 2 met all our requirements. It provides exceptional voice lift, clear audio for remote participants, and integrates seamlessly with our chosen DSP (Q-SYS), Control (Crestron) and video solutions (Crestron NVX).”

Federation University’s AV strategy was built on standardisation and efficiency. The AV team meticulously tested and refined their setup to ensure maximum performance. Prototyping was essential to the rollout, with small configuration nuances affecting performance, rigorous testing was key.

Transforming the Learning Experience

The impact of Sennheiser’s TCC 2 on Federation University’s learning environment has been profound. Academics benefit from a hassle-free setup, walking into classrooms that are already configured for teaching. Remote monitoring and management have also been game-changers for the university and the installation process was streamlined thanks to Sennheiser’s robust support.

“The TCC 2 microphones are truly a ‘set and forget’ solution, they’re reliable, easy to install, and deliver phenomenal performance. User feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how seamless and effective the system is. By enabling remote access, we can proactively detect and resolve issues before they affect users.

“In addition, we’ve refined the process to commission a room in just 1.5 days. This rapid deployment ensures minimal disruption and allows us to scale quickly. The team at Sennheiser provided invaluable assistance. From early-stage design guidance to troubleshooting during implementation, their expertise ensured our systems were production-ready,” said Suyan.

A Scalable, Future-Proof Model for Higher Education

Federation University’s Connected Classroom template, powered by Sennheiser’s TeamConnect Ceiling 2, provides real-world inspiration for other higher education AV departments everywhere. By focusing on user-friendly design, robust technology, and seamless integration, the university has created a flexible, accessible, and high-quality learning experience that meets the needs of modern education.
