This article explains the term "3rd party API", an important prerequisite for successful collaboration within the Sennheiser Global Alliances

The Sennheiser Global Alliances are strategic partnerships with innovative, technology-driven companies and vendors that share a common goal – simplifying daily workflows. These alliances aim to provide customers with unique experiences for meetings and collaboration. The Global Alliances are founded on Sennheiser’s brand-agnostic approach, ensuring maximum flexibility for customers.

By focusing on interoperability between systems and products from various manufacturers, users can take advantage of their preferred technologies without worrying about compatibility issues. This approach allows customers to benefit from the best features of each platform, leading to more efficient workflows within an open ecosystem. To guarantee this level of interoperability, all of Sennheiser's network-enabled devices feature an 3rd party API.

What are the benefits of a 3rd party API?

A 3rd party API consists of protocols and tools that empower developers to create custom software solutions that interact with specific applications or services. This offers flexibility for organizations to develop tailored solutions addressing their unique requirements without being constrained by proprietary technology or closed ecosystems. 3rd party APIs promote collaboration between companies, developers and third-party providers by encouraging the creation of new features, tools and services that leverage existing software capabilities. By embracing 3rd party APIs, businesses can establish more connected, innovative and efficient digital ecosystems that benefit both the organizations and their customers.

To meet the increasing demand for security in AV projects which have become also IT projects with digitalization, Sennheiser developed the Sennheiser Sound Control Protocol Version 2 – SSCv2. It is an encrypted REST API allowing the user to control the device using HTTPS commands and to implement products in every IT environment. It offers end-to-end security in connection and communication. REST is a widely adopted standard in IT, with support in various platforms and languages.

SSCv2’s Open API specification offers a standard way for specifying REST APIs. It provides a human-readable and machine processable format (typically YAML or JSON). This makes the developer’s life easier by giving them a standard tool. It allows code generation from the API specification and reduces the development and testing effort. You can find an always up-to-date list with all Sennheiser devices that support SSCv2 on the Sennheiser 3rd party documentation website
